Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Tarnished Forge collects, what stays on your device, and how to reach us about privacy questions. The short version: core progress tools are built to work in your browser without an account.

Scope

This policy applies to the website operated at tarnishedforge.com and related pages under that domain (the "Site"), including the Elden Ring database, calculators, map, walkthrough content and progress tools branded as Tarnished Forge.

It does not cover third-party websites you may reach through outbound links, platform stores, wikis, or social profiles that are not operated by us. Those services have their own policies.

Privacy summary

  • You can browse the Site without creating an account.
  • Checklist and related progress state are stored in your browser (local storage), not in a Tarnished Forge user account.
  • If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to include in that message.
  • Hosting and network providers necessarily process technical request data such as IP addresses while serving pages.
  • We do not sell personal information.

No account wall

The Site is designed so that map browsing, database lookup, calculators and local progress tracking work without registration. Privacy choices around progress are therefore mostly device-level: clear site data and the local tracker resets unless you kept an export.

Information we process

Information you provide directly

If you contact us at support@tarnishedforge.com, we process the contents of your message and any metadata your mail provider includes (for example your email address and the time sent). Use that channel for data questions, corrections, takedown notes or privacy requests.

Browser-local progress and preferences

Features such as the 100% checklist, achievement ticks, quest completion marks and some calculator drafts store state in your browser using mechanisms like localStorage. On this Site, progress commonly uses the key tarnishedForge:elden-ring, along with any feature-specific keys a tool documents in its own UI.

  • This data stays on your device unless you export a file and move it yourself.
  • We do not receive a live copy of your checklist when you tick an item.
  • Other people using the same browser profile can see the same local state.
  • Private/incognito windows, cleared site data, or a different device will not show the same progress unless you import a backup.

Technical and hosting data

Like most websites, when your browser requests a page, standard technical data is processed by the servers and network infrastructure that deliver the Site. That typically includes IP address, user agent, requested URL, approximate timing and basic diagnostic logs needed to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service.

Exact retention for infrastructure logs depends on the hosting and CDN providers in use at the time. Those providers process data under their own terms as our processors or independent controllers for network delivery.

Cookies and similar technologies

The Site relies primarily on first-party browser storage for progress and tool state rather than on an account cookie. Your browser may also store ordinary session or cache data required to load static assets efficiently.

If we add optional analytics, embedded media, or other cookies that are not strictly required to deliver the page you asked for, we will update this policy to describe categories, purposes and any choices available to you. Until such tools are introduced, assume progress state is local and contact mail is the main personal data you send on purpose.

  • Essential storage: local progress keys and short-lived technical state needed for the tools to function.
  • Communications: email content you send to support.
  • Third-party embeds: only if a specific page loads them; those third parties may set their own cookies subject to their policies.

How we use information

We use information only to:

  • Operate, maintain and improve the Site and its Elden Ring tools.
  • Respond to messages you send, including bug reports and privacy requests.
  • Protect the Site against abuse, fraud and security incidents.
  • Comply with law where a valid legal obligation applies.
  • Understand aggregate technical health of the service (for example error rates or traffic volume) when diagnostics are available from hosting.

We do not use local checklist contents for advertising profiles, because those contents are not uploaded to us as part of normal ticking behavior.

Sharing and processors

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in these situations:

  • Service providers that host, cache, or deliver the Site and email, limited to what they need to perform those services.
  • Professional advisors or authorities when required by law or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • A successor entity if the Site is transferred, provided the recipient continues to respect applicable privacy commitments for the data they receive.

Retention

Browser-local progress remains until you clear it, overwrite it, or your browser expires the storage according to its own rules. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle your request and maintain a basic support record, then deleted or minimized when no longer necessary unless a longer period is required by law.

Technical logs retained by hosting providers follow those providers' schedules. We do not attempt to build long-term identity profiles from ordinary page requests.

Security

We take reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to a small fan site that stores most user progress on-device: HTTPS delivery where configured, limited access to support inboxes, and dependency updates as part of normal maintenance. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. You should avoid sending passwords, payment card numbers or unrelated sensitive personal data to the support address.

Children

The Site discusses a mature-rated game and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information to us by email, contact support@tarnishedforge.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

International visitors

The Site may be hosted or cached in more than one country. If you access it from outside the country where our servers or providers operate, your technical request data may be processed in those locations. Where data-protection law grants you rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability for personal data we control, you can exercise them by emailing the address below. We may need enough information to verify the request.

Your choices

  • Clear site data in your browser to remove local progress keys.
  • Export checklist backups before switching devices if you want to keep progress.
  • Stop emailing us to avoid further voluntary correspondence.
  • Use browser controls to block non-essential cookies if any are introduced later.
  • Read the Terms of Use for rules about Site access and game IP disclaimers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the Site's practices change — for example if accounts, analytics or new storage features ship. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Site after an update means you should review the revised policy. Material changes that affect how we handle personal data you already sent by email will be handled in good faith when you reopen that thread.
