What Is Godrick Weak To?

Physical damage is the cleanest answer. Slash, strike and pierce all land at full strength, so upgraded weapons and jump attacks are reliable here.

Holy is his strongest defense. Magic, fire and lightning only lose a little — still usable, just not free damage.

Bleed, frost, poison and scarlet rot all build. Madness does nothing. If your kit already leans on status, keep using it as extra pressure.

Phase 2 adds fire breath and fire AoE. That does not make Godrick weak to fire; raise your fire defense and wait out the breath instead of swapping to a fire weapon.

Godrick the Grafted Location

Stormveil Castle’s end boss sits past the Secluded Cell grace in Limgrave.

Quick Answer

Location: Stormveil Castle throne approach, Limgrave

Nearest grace: Secluded Cell. The fog gate is a short walk from that rest point into the graveyard arena.

Godrick waits at the end of Stormveil Castle in Limgrave. After you beat Margit, the Fell Omen at the castle gate, push the legacy dungeon until you reach the Secluded Cell Site of Grace — that is the nearest rest before the fog.

From Secluded Cell, the fog gate opens straight into Godrick’s arena: a narrow paved walk through a graveyard with a wider step landing near the entrance. There are no safe pillars to break line of sight for long, so space management matters more than cover.

How to Get to Godrick the Grafted

The short route from Margit to Secluded Cell and the boss fog — enough to reach him without clearing every Stormveil side room.

  1. Step 1

Reach Stormhill and defeat Margit, the Fell Omen at the Stormveil gate, or use any route that already opens the castle interior.

  2. Step 2

Progress Stormveil Castle. Rampart Tower is a strong mid-castle checkpoint if you are still clearing rooms, looting, and meeting Nepheli.

  3. Step 3

Continue until you unlock Secluded Cell, the nearest Site of Grace to the boss fog.

  4. Step 4

Rest at Secluded Cell, summon Nepheli outside the fog if her sign is available, then enter the Godrick arena.

Fastest Route to Godrick

If you already have Secluded Cell, skip side rooms and go straight from that grace to the boss fog.

From Rampart Tower, keep pushing the main castle route rather than looping courtyards you already cleared.

Players who only need the Great Rune later can skip Godrick entirely via the Liurnia cliff path, then return when stronger.

Godrick the Grafted Recommended Level

A fair first-play range after Margit. Come in higher if Stormveil enemies are still draining your flasks.

RecommendationValue
Character Level25–35
Vigor20+
Standard Weapon+3 to +4
Somber Weapon+1 to +2

Treat 25–30 as a comfortable first-time window if you cleared Margit, Limgrave and some of Weeping Peninsula. Push toward the mid-30s if Stormveil itself is eating your flasks.

Melee builds want enough Vigor to survive axe combos and the phase-2 fire sweep. Mages can sit a little lower on Vigor if they keep range and a spirit ash up, but FP and safe cast windows matter more than raw level.

Nepheli Loux and a solid spirit ash make the fight far less punishing for first clears. Summons are optional; they are the simplest safety net if you are underleveled.

How to Beat Godrick the Grafted

When to hit, how phase 1 and phase 2 differ, and simple melee, mage and summon approaches for a first clear.

Quick Strategy

  • Rest at Secluded Cell with a +3/+4 standard weapon (or +1/+2 somber), full flasks, and physical damage as your default plan. Holy is his worst matchup for you.
  • Talk to Nepheli inside Stormveil earlier if you want her sign at the fog. Summon her before entering; add a spirit ash after the fog if you still want a second body.
  • Hit him after a finished Axe Combo, a Jumping Slash landing, a roll that does not instantly chain, or the end of a Storm Blade volley. Take one or two hits, then reset.
  • Do not greed the five-hit Axe Combo or stand in phase-2 fire. Those two mistakes end more attempts than his health bar.
  • At ~60% HP he stops to chop his arm. Back off, heal, re-buff if needed, then re-enter knowing Fire Sweep, Fire March, the grab and Bear Witness! are now live.

Phase 1

Phase 1 is axe pressure, grafted-arm swings, rolls into follow-ups, Stormcaller cyclones and homing Storm Blade projectiles. The arena is a narrow paved strip with graveyards on both sides — stay on the path so rolls do not clip stones.

Axe Combo is the main greed trap. He can string up to five frontal swings. If the second hit is already coming, stop attacking: block, walk out, or roll each swing, then answer only after the final recovery.

Jumping Slash and Forward Axe Grind are cleaner punish tools. Roll toward or past the landing, or off the grind line, and spend one jump attack or charged heavy — not a full light string.

Storm Blade buys ranged players free casts if you sidestep the volley. Melee can walk diagonally through it and still get a hit if he does not immediately Stormcaller.

When he freezes normal offense and raises the axe to sever his own arm (~60% HP), create distance. The chop can still clip point-blank players. Use the cutscene gap to flask and reset camera center on the path.

Phase 2

Phase 2 keeps the axe kit and adds dragon fire: Fire Sweep, Fire March, a grab, and Bear Witness! Fire defense and calm spacing matter more than swapping to a fire weapon — he is not weak to fire.

Fire Sweep is a long continuous jet that tracks across the arena. Do not tank it. Sprint around the cone or roll the trailing edge, then punish the breath recovery with a short combo.

Fire March walks him forward while breathing and finishes with a horizontal sweep. Circle wide along the path; straight backpedaling down the strip walks you into the jet and the finish.

The dragon grab reaches with the grafted head. Roll to either side as the arm extends. If you get caught, expect fire plus a slam — flask immediately after you land instead of forcing a trade.

Bear Witness! plants the dragon, spins, then yanks up into a rain of fiery rocks. Retreat for the plant and spin, keep moving under the rain, and only reclose when he fully recovers. This is a heal window if you are already safe outside the blast.

Melee Strategy

Hold mid-range on the paved strip: close enough to punish finishers, far enough to see roll startups and breath angles. Hugging his legs the whole fight eats axe combos and fire sweeps.

Default loop: bait or survive Axe Combo → one jump attack or two lights → disengage. Save charged heavies for Jumping Slash landings, grind finishers and breath recoveries when posture is already softened.

He cannot be parried, but criticals still work once his posture breaks. Use jump attacks and charged heavies after safe recoveries to break posture; do not chase a critical through an active five-hit string.

If Nepheli or a spirit ash has his attention, hit the open flank and stop the moment he turns a full combo or breath your way. Summons create openings; they do not make greedy trades free.

Mage / Ranged Strategy

Start on the wider entrance steps, then kite along the path. Magic still works, but he resists it a little — upgraded staff damage is fine, just slower than a physical weapon with the same investment.

Cast after Storm Blade volleys, Jumping Slash landings, missed grabs and finished Fire Sweeps. Stop casting the instant an Axe Combo or roll-into-swing starts; long lock-in spells are how mages die here.

A durable spirit ash, or Nepheli plus an ash, is what actually buys cast time. While they hold him, stay to the side, release one spell, and move. Keep a melee backup for when he rolls through your spacing.

In phase 2, treat fire breath as a hard stop on channeling. Move first, cast second. If you run low on FP mid-fight, a few weapon hits on breath recovery are better than a dry flask panic under the jet.

Easy Strategy / Cheese

Cleanest easy clear: speak with Nepheli in Stormveil so her summon sign appears outside Godrick’s fog. Summon her before you enter, then a spirit ash after the fog. Let them peel while you take only finished-combo and breath-recovery hits.

If your damage is low, apply poison, scarlet rot or bleed from range and play the patience game. Those statuses still build on him; madness does not. Back off after every Axe Combo instead of forcing melee trades.

Fireproof Dried Liver or other fire defense helps more in phase 2 than swapping to a fire weapon. Survive the sweeps first — he is not weak to fire.

If you care more about reaching new areas than winning this fight now, skip Stormveil by the broken-bridge path into Liurnia, gear up, then come back for the Great Rune and Remembrance when you are stronger.

Godrick the Grafted Attack Patterns

Each move with its tell, how to dodge it, and when you can punish. Watch Axe Combo, Fire Sweep, the dragon grab and Bear Witness! first — they end the most attempts.

Axe Combo1–2Winds up a frontal axe string that can chain up to five swingsPhysicalStop your own string immediately. Walk out, block, or roll each swing; the common death is trading after hit two or threeOnly after the final swing recovery — one jump attack or two lights, then reset
Stormcaller1–2Wind gathers around his body into a cyclonePhysical / wind AoELeave the circle early; do not roll in place inside the windShort reclose after the cyclone drops if he does not chain Storm Blade
Storm Blade1–2Homing wind blades leave the axe toward youPhysical / windSidestep or roll through the volley on a diagonal; panic rolling straight back still eats later bladesAfter the last projectile — free cast or one melee hit unless he Stormcallers
Jumping Slash1–2Crouches into a leap, then drives the axe downPhysicalRoll toward or past the landing, not away into a late hitLanding recovery is one of the best jump-attack / charged-heavy windows
Forward Axe Grind1–2Drags the axe along the ground while advancing into a finish slashPhysicalSidestep off the grind line, then watch the finish slashAfter the forward slash — short punish only
Roll into follow-up1–2Body roll that chains straight into another attackMovementTrack him through the roll and wait; attacking the roll itself often eats the follow-upOnly after the chained attack fully finishes
Arm Chop (transition)1 → 2Drops normal offense and severs his own arm at ~60% HPPhysical (if close)Step back before the chop; point-blank players can still get clippedNone — flask, re-buff, center on the path before phase 2 starts
Fire Sweep2Dragon head locks on and spews a long sweeping flame jetFireSprint around the cone or roll the trailing edge; standing in the jet is the phase-2 greed deathWhen the jet fully stops — two hits or one spell, then leave before the next breath

Dragon Grab2Dragon arm reaches forward to clutch youFire + slamRoll left or right as the arm extends; late rolls get caught and eat fire plus a ground slamWhiff recovery is real — punish once, flask if you were clipped on the way out

Godrick the Grafted Lore

Who Godrick is, why he grafts, and how the name Godrick the Golden still points to the same man.

Godrick is a distant descendant of the Golden Lineage that began with Queen Marika and Godfrey. Finger Reader Enia calls him the runt of the litter — divine blood diluted, power borrowed through grafting rather than birthright.

After the Shattering he fled Leyndell, hid among civilians, then settled in Stormveil with soldiers who abandoned the capital. Grafting became his answer to weakness: limbs of Tarnished and others fixed onto his body, and Grafted Scions built the same way.

He styles himself lord of all that is golden and still reaches for Godfrey’s image — lion axe, golden rhetoric, the cry for his ancestor to witness him. The Lands Between answered with a crueler name: Godrick the Grafted.

A sword monument and Kenneth Haight both record his humiliation by Malenia. He insulted her, lost, and begged. That history sits under the bravado you hear in the arena.

Godrick FAQ

Is Godrick the Golden the same as Godrick the Grafted?

Yes. Godrick the Golden is the title he claims from the Golden Lineage. Godrick the Grafted is the name the world uses for the same shardbearer in Stormveil Castle.

Is Godrick optional?

Yes for exploration — you can reach Liurnia without beating him. He is still a major shardbearer, and his Great Rune counts toward the two activated Great Runes required to enter Leyndell later.

Can you skip Godrick?

Yes. Take the broken-bridge / cliff path from northern Limgrave into Liurnia of the Lakes if you want to leave Stormveil for later. Come back when you need the Great Rune, Remembrance, or castle completion.

What level should you fight Godrick?

Most first-time clears feel fair around level 25–35 with a +3/+4 standard weapon (or +1/+2 somber), Vigor in the 20s, and optionally Nepheli or a spirit ash. Go higher if Stormveil itself is still draining you.

What is Godrick weak to?

Physical slash, strike and pierce all deal full damage. Magic, fire and lightning are slightly resisted; holy is resisted more. Bleed, frost, poison, rot and sleep build; madness does not.

Where is Godrick the Grafted?

At the end of Stormveil Castle in Limgrave. Secluded Cell is the nearest Site of Grace; the fog opens into his graveyard arena.

Does Godrick have a second phase?

Yes. Around 60% HP he chops off his arm, grafts a dragon head, and adds fire breath, fire marches, a grab and the Bear Witness! rock rain on top of his axe moves.
